Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows (or 10 oz. bag of regular marshmallows)
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the pan:
    • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the treats.
  2. Melt the butter and marshmallows:
    • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
    • Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract, if using.
  3. Combine with cereal:
    • Quickly add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture and stir until the cereal is evenly coated.
  4. Press into the pan:
    • Using a spatula or a piece of wax paper, press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Be careful not to press too hard, as this can make the treats too dense.
  5. Cool and cut:
    • Allow the Rice Krispie treats to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.
    • Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles.
  6. Serve and enjoy:
    • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Optional Variations:

  • Chocolate Drizzle: Drizzle melted chocolate over the top of the treats before cutting them.

  • Peanut Butter: Add 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter to the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the cereal.
