Caprese Panini

A Caprese Panini is a classic Italian sandwich that’s simple yet full of flavor. Here’s how to make one:

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of ciabatta bread or another hearty bread
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1-2 ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Slice the mozzarella cheese and tomatoes.
    • Wash and pat dry the basil leaves.
  2. Assemble the Panini:
    • Drizzle olive oil on one side of each slice of bread.
    • On the un-oiled side of one slice, layer the mozzarella cheese, tomato slices, and basil leaves.
    • Drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze or vinegar over the ingredients.
    • Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
    • Top with the second slice of bread, oiled side facing out.
  3. Grill the Panini:
    • Preheat a panini press or a grill pan over medium heat.
    • Place the assembled sandwich on the panini press or grill pan.
    • Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. If using a grill pan, press the sandwich with a spatula and flip halfway through.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the panini from the press or pan.
    • Let it cool for a minute, then cut in half if desired.
    • Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a drizzle of pesto inside the panini.
  • If you don’t have a panini press, you can use a regular skillet and press the sandwich with another heavy skillet on top.
