Beef Stir-Fry

Beef stir-fry is a quick and flavorful dish that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner. Here’s a simple recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) beef (sirloin, flank, or tenderloin), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 carrot, thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons water or beef broth
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables: While the beef is marinating, prepare the vegetables by slicing the bell peppers, onion, and carrot. Chop the broccoli into bite-sized florets and mince the garlic and ginger.
  3. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
    • Add the marinated beef to the skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the beef is browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  4. Cook the Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
    • Add the garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add the sliced bell peppers, onion, broccoli, and carrot. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Combine and Finish:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables.
    • Add the water or beef broth to the skillet and stir well to combine everything. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce has thickened and everything is heated through.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions. Serve the beef stir-fry over cooked rice or noodles.

Enjoy your delicious beef stir-fry!
